Hey friends,
Hope you had a good weekend.
Here’s this week’s 1 Doodle · 1 Do · 1 Direction.
1 Doodle
This week I got rejected by the first round of publishers we thought were a good fit for my book. They passed on the proposal. Not because they didn’t like the idea. One editor even wrote: “This is a compelling idea. It’s sticky and accessible, and it’s a well-done proposal.” The hesitation was about my social media presence. Getting these “No”s one after another made me pause. And I told myself: I’ve seen this movie before.
When I applied for jobs.
When I applied for grad school.
When I asked for recommendation letters.
When I submitted research papers.
When award applications came back rejected.
No. After no. After no. And here I am again. Rejection doesn't always mean the work is bad. Half the time it’s just weird timing, shifting goals, or in this case the fact that I don’t have a massive following yet. I drew this doodle to remind myself that I don’t need every door to open, I just need one. If you’re getting hit with a string of “no’s” right now, you’re probably just clearing the path for the right “yes.”
1 Do
Rejection sucks. And usually, it’s out of our hands. What is in my control is where I choose to focus. So, I decided to consistently create and share content on YouTube, Instagram, and LinkedIn. If you’re following me on all three, thank you. It truly means a lot. If you’re not, I’d love for you to join me there. And if you’re in a “No circle” right now and you know why, that’s actually a good sign. Knowing the reason is already halfway there. Now ask yourself: what is in your control to improve?

What has always helped me push through a “No circle” is trust. Trust that I believe in my resume, my job application, my capabilities, and my idea (in this case, the book) even if it gets rejected. I believe there is one person out there who will say Yes. My job is simply to keep showing up until I find them.
That’s all for this week.
With love,
