1-1-1: Semiconductor Iceberg

Hey friends,

Hope you had a good weekend.

Here’s this week’s 1-1-1.

1 Doodle

This week, I was looking through the visual templates from the Thinking in Visual Metaphors course by PJ Milani that I took a few months ago. I recalled his advice to explore how we could apply these frameworks to our own areas of expertise. Having worked in the semiconductor space for about six years, I considered which concept would fit best and chose the classic iceberg model.

In an iceberg diagram, what sits above the water is what most people notice, while the massive structure hidden beneath is what keeps the top afloat. Above the surface are well-known chip manufacturers like Intel, TSMC, and Samsung. Below the surface, however, are the vital equipment suppliers without whom these semiconductor giants could not survive. Yet surprisingly, many people have never heard their names.

1 Do

Identify five companies that provide hardware or software solutions to your current company. Find at least one contact at each organization, connect with them on LinkedIn, and set up a coffee chat with someone from your top choice.

1 Direction

When a project wraps up, most people only see the finished product. They don’t see the meetings, emails, follow-ups, coordination, and troubleshooting that made it possible. What looks seamless from the outside is often supported by an immense amount of unseen work. The iceberg analogy always reminds me of the reality that behind every achievement lies an invisible foundation with a story worth telling.

That’s all for this week.

Warmly,

- Ehsan /a-🌞/
