1-1-1: Growth Has Two Paths

1-1-1: Growth Has Two Paths

Hey friends,

Hope you had a good weekend.

Here’s this week’s 1 Doodle · 1 Do · 1 Direction.

1 Doodle

This week, when I checked our shared shopping list on Alexa, I saw two items: No egg. No lemon.

A shopping list is usually for what we purchase, not what we don’t. But it seemed like it was a reminder not to buy those.

I sometimes do the same with my goals. I write “no goals.” For example, when I had my sabbatical, I decided to write 1,500 words per day for four weeks. And my “no goal” was: no home improvement projects.

This week I thought more about how the other side of the coin can sometimes help us be better on this side. Especially when it comes to growth and success.

We naturally think about what we can do to grow or succeed. We don’t intentionally think about what we can not do or simply remove to grow and succeed.

Removing a bad habit.

A bad friend.

A bad environment.

A bad manager.

The wrong work.

So this week I drew this doodle to show that growth comes from both adding good things and removing bad things.

1 Do

This week, instead of adding something new, remove one thing that’s getting in the way of your growth.

1 Direction

Removing things to grow is often invisible, and we rarely celebrate that. Seeing the path of growth through subtraction is what I have in mind this week.

That’s all for this week.

With love,

- Ehsan /a-sun/
