1-1-1: Find Your Passion

Hey friends,

Hope you had a good weekend.

Here’s this week’s 1-1-1.

1 Doodle

Recently, a friend of mine started making handmade soap. Since he has a degree in chemistry, I trusted his product completely. However, after spending over $2,000, he abandoned the project to look for something else.

I think the word "passion" is often misused. When someone tells me, "This is my passion," I usually think they are at the latest stage of their interest.

This week, I drew a visual to remind both him and myself how true passion actually develops. We start by exploring the full landscape at a distance (0.5X), finding a specific focus (1X), and investing our time and energy to inspect it closely (3X). My friend did all of this, but instead of taking the next step, he cycled right back to wide-lens exploration (0.5X) to find another interest.

This cycle of Explore → Find → Invest might repeat several times, but real passion only happens when we transition from the Invest stage to the Deepen stage, zooming all the way in (400X) to study the microscopic details underneath.

1 Do

How many times have you found yourself caught in this cycle of exploring, finding, investing, and then zooming back out to start all over again?

It is completely fine to repeat this cycle many times before you find what makes you want to look deeper. But true passion is unlocked at that 400X stage.

When you reach the Deepen stage and start talking about your subject, the people around you can genuinely feel your energy. You can enthusiastically explain complex things in a simple, effortless way, and others naturally wish to be like you.

However, they are only seeing the surface, the tip of the iceberg. They don't see how many cycles of exploration and investment it took just to get here.

That’s all for this week.

Warmly,

- Ehsan /a-🌞/
