Hey friends,
Hope you had a good weekend.
Here’s this week’s 1 Doodle · 1 Do · 1 Direction.
1 Doodle
I decided to continue sending this 90-day plan doodle at the beginning of each month as a reminder.
There are two outcomes. First, if you started your 90-day plan in January, you know this is the last month. And if you started in February, you’ve already passed a month and this reminder helps you notice it.
But most importantly, if you haven’t started in January, you might feel like you already missed the moment to set a goal. Maybe you start criticizing yourself for not having a shiny goal to announce and highlight like others do on Instagram.
The reality is I never look at time that way. And I admit I wasn’t always like that either.
Over time, I noticed that the best time to start something is simply the start time. It might be in the middle of the night, on a Saturday, or on a random Wednesday afternoon.
So if you haven’t started a 90-day goal yet, March can be your month to start.
And if you’re reading this on March 9 and thinking, “I already missed the beginning of the month,” that’s actually a great opportunity to practice something important: training your mind not to wait for perfect timing.
You don’t have to start at a sharp moment like March 1.
You can start now.
1 Do
Set a 90-day plan to learn a skill that levels you up at work.
For example, I recently recommended to a PhD student who is thinking about transitioning into the semiconductor industry that he learn SQL, because working with data is essential there.
But “learn SQL” is a vague recommendation. So I suggested something more concrete: block one hour per day, five days a week.
That’s about 20 hours per month.
There are great SQL courses on YouTube. Here’s a 30-hour course I recommend.
You can watch one hour each day, and the next day practice what you learned and see how it might apply to your work.
Even if you miss a few days, which will probably happen, you can still make meaningful progress over 90 days.
1 Direction
If you go off track from your plan once, let’s say you miss a day of practicing SQL (or whatever you planned), that’s okay.
Just don’t let it become the second time.
That’s all for this week.
With love,
